Here’s a little information on why West Pres Joliet is supporting Strong Kids, Strong City:

Local elementary students at Pershing fill the classrooms with unique personalities and stories every day. A majority of the students are part of bilingual families and backgrounds, primarily Spanish-speaking homes. Pershing Elementary is a Title 1 school. Title 1 schools receive funds and financial assistance because our students come from low-income households. While 100% of the students receive free breakfast and lunch, the school does not get the funding to provide students with meaningful curriculum and supplies to enrich their learning. Despite this, students come to school and work their hardest everyday to learn and grow and enjoy hands-on learning experiences that help them understand concepts and ideas in math, science, literacy, and social studies. It is our firm belief that every child deserves a fair and equal education, but that is not always the case. Strong Kids, Strong City is working to provide all the necessary supplies needed to the students in order for them to participate in an engaging and rigorous school day.

Mission statement:  Strong Kids, Strong City exists to work alongside Joliet students by equipping them with resources to positively impact our community.
Additional info:
Since their inception, local schools have been the backbone of communities all across the country. Strong Kids, Strong City recognizes that local schools are not only essential for education, but community building as well. Working alongside Joliet students to positively impact our community and make education a priority is the heartbeat of SKSC.
